A residential home for teenagers and young adults suffering emotional and behavioural problems including substance abuse. At the house of hope a home-away-from-home environment will prevail, as far removed from an institution as is possible. There will be live in carers, direct care workers who come on a daily basis, as well as caring people who act as volunteers and who have been carefully screened. As well as receiving formal education an integral part of the program is professional counselling, instruction in living skills, social skills, sport, social activities and weekend excursions. The goal at house of hope is to replace a sense of despair (many are suicidal) and hopelessness with a sense of hope. To replace low self-esteem and a sense of worthlessness with a sense of confidence and the knowledge of the tremendous worth of each individual so that constructive relationships can be established. To teach each young persons the values which will make them productive members of society is the house of hope's aim. Reconciliation and restoration of the young person's whole family is of prime concern
